Do I need to be an experienced cook?

We welcome all skill levels and abilities on our courses!

With a maximum of fives students on each course, you are guaranteed personalised tuition. If you have never tried the skill being taught, John will give you all of the support that you need to succeed. For more confident cooks, John will help you to refine and improve your technique, and take your skills to the next level.

What happens to the food I cook?

All of the food that you cook is yours to take home!

Several of our courses are designed so students enjoy some of the dishes that they create in the morning for lunch.

Everything else will be wrapped up for you in sustainable packaging and popped into your goody bag for you to take home to impress your friends and family!

Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

We can accommodate most dietary requirements and requests.

Please let us know when making your booking if you have any dietary restrictions.

How long are the courses and what time do they start?

Please arrive at Paul Ainsworth at No. 6 just after 9am for a light breakfast in our Florence Parker private dining room.  Once you’re fuelled up for the day ahead, you will go on a behind-the-scenes tour of No. 6, before beginning your course at 10am. Our courses run all day and finish between 3-4pm.

How are the courses structured?

Our courses combine demonstrations by John with elements cooked together as a class, and dishes cooked individually by each student.

Every course is practical and accessible – students will be hands-on in the kitchen right from the start of the day!

Is lunch provided?

Lunch is included in all of our courses and is served with a glass of wine personally selected by our No. 6 sommelier, Elly Owen, or a soft drink of your choice.

Several of our courses are designed so that you enjoy the food that you cook in the morning as part of your lunch. For courses where this is not the case, you can enjoy our seasonal set menu from Paul Ainsworth at No. 6.

We can accommodate most dietary requirements and we offer vegetarian and vegan alternatives to our lunch menu.

Will I have to do any washing up?


Our courses are all about the fun of cooking, and we want you to enjoy every moment, so our team will take care of all the clean-up for you.

Do I need to bring an apron?

We will provide you with your chef’s whites for the day, and an apron which is yours to take home!

What footwear should I wear?

Please wear comfortable shoes with a closed toe.

What is the WhatsApp group and do I have to join?

We create a WhatsApp group for every course, in which you and your four fellow students can ask John – and each other – any questions about your dishes and share your successes!

Participation is completely voluntary – we will not add you to the group without your consent.

Is there are minimum age limit for your courses?

You must be aged eighteen or over to attend our cookery courses.

How far in advance can I book?

We are currently accepting bookings for courses up to the end of March 2020.

New courses will be released soon!

What does the Padstow Townhouse package include?

Our courses are available as a package with a night’s stay at Padstow Townhouse. This includes one cookery course place and one night at the Townhouse in any of our six luxury suites.

Any additional cookery course places will be charged at the standard rate.

Where is the best place to park?

The closest parking to Mahé is the South Quay Car Park in Padstow.

There is also on-street disabled bay parking on Broad Street in central Padstow.

When is payment due?

Full payment for our cookery school courses is taken when making your booking.




I can't come to the course I booked, can I reschedule?

If you are unable to make your course, and would like to reschedule to a different date, please contact us at least 14 days prior to your course date.

We regret that we cannot reschedule your course more than once.

What's your cancellation policy?

We regret that we cannot refund any payment for a cookery class that you are unable to attend.

We reserve the right to cancel or amend the course – if we cancel the course you will be fully refunded.
